If you live in North Carolina, whether or not health care reform has brought about affordable health insurance depends on who you are talking to. As a health, life, and disability insurance agent in the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina, I am often asked about different components of health care reform and its impact. Its a complicated subject. Some of the components of health care reform have already been implemented, such as well care covered at 100% and covering preexisting conditions for children (both of these items resulted in higher insurance premiums). A good deal of the more controversial components are slated to begin January, 2014. Read the rest of this entry »
First let’s start with what is the subsidy? The subsidy is also known as the “premium tax credit”. It will offset the price of health insurance for those who qualify as of 2014. It is available for individuals and families who are between 100% to 400% FPL (Federal Poverty Level).
The income ranges for 100% to 400% FPL are:
Individual with annual income of $10,830 to $43,336
Family of 2 with annual income of $14,470 to $58,280
Family of 3 with annual income of $18,310 to $73,240

2. The average long-term disability claim duration is 31.2 months.
3. One in eight workers will be disabled for five years or more during their working careers. Read the rest of this entry »

The dirty little word that Congress doesn’t like to say when discussing healthcare is the same word that drives increasing health insurance premiums: costs. Thanks to Medicare, your sky high insurance premuims pay for both.
